Closed-Cell Spray Foam on a Drive-In Porch Addition in Tomball, TX
Expanding an existing structure with a covered drive-in porch or lean-to addition is a smart way to increase usable square footage. However, tying new construction—like the wood-framed wall seen in this project—into an existing metal building structure requires a versatile insulation strategy to properly seal gaps, bridge different building materials, and stop heavy heat transfer.
The Challenge of Enclosed Additions
When you enclose a space with a sloped metal roof, that roof acts as a giant radiator during the Texas summer, making the area underneath unbearably hot. Additionally, the transition points where a metal roof meets a new wood-framed wall resting on a concrete stem wall are notorious for air leaks and moisture intrusion. Standard batts or foam boards struggle to seal these irregular transitions effectively.
The Spray Foam Solution
To solve this, Weeks Spray Foam utilized closed-cell spray foam. As you can see in the project photo, our team applied a continuous, monolithic layer directly to the underside of the sloped metal roof deck, stopping radiant heat in its tracks and preventing any cold-weather condensation.
We also sprayed the cavities of the newly constructed wood-framed wall. Because closed-cell foam expands and cures in place, it acts as a permanent gap-filler, effortlessly bridging the transition between the metal ceiling, the wooden studs, and the concrete base. This approach provides superior garage insulation by creating a completely airtight, waterproof envelope.
The Finished Result
The result is a structurally reinforced, draft-free addition. Whether the owner uses this drive-in porch for vehicle storage, a protected workspace, or a conditioned transition area into the main building, the space is now completely sealed off from the harsh outside weather.
If you are planning an addition, retrofitting a lean-to, or need high-quality metal building insulation for a unique build in the Tomball area, we have the expertise to do it right the first time.
